DVA offers three (3) national POS medical plans through Meritain Health for all benefit eligible employees. The Meritain Health POS platform provides you the flexibility to use any provider or facility. However, utilizing In-Network providers and facilities will offer the highest benefit level and lower out-of-pocket expenses.
One of the Meritain Health plans is HSA Qualified. If you choose the HDHP - HSA plan you may want to set up a payroll deduction into a Health Savings Account (HSA).

Ways to Save on medical expenses

Use In-Network providers and facilities whenever possible. check that a specialist or facility that you are referred to is in network.

Get your annual preventive exam/well-child check-ups. These exams can often detect health problems early.

Ask your provider if there is a suitable generic alternative to brand name Rx. Generics typically use the same active ingredients and are less expensive.

Seek out resources such as the $4 generic program through Walgreens, Walmart, Costco, Sam's, Fry's, and Target.

Use urgent care facilities vs Hospital emergency room whenever possible. Urgent care facilities are lower in cost, generally have a shorter wait time and can provide the same care and treatment.

Compare pricing between network facilities charge differently. if facing surgery, ask the surgeon where they have hospital rights, and verify in-network providers (including the anesthesiologist) and overall costs of each hospital.
